History
The Canberra & Regions Oil Industry Emergency Response Group, Incorporated
The Canberra & Regions Oil Industry Emergency Response Group Incorporated (CROIERG) was formed in mid 1989 following a road tanker roll-over on the Federal Highway, near Canberra, Australia, which resulted in a spillage of over thirty thousand litres [30,000L] of petroleum product.
The product entered a creek and spill control, spill containment, clean-up and recovery equipment had to be brought all the way from Sydney. This was shown to be unsatisfactory, media reports at the time highlighted this aspect and the Oil Distributors and Petroleum Product Cartage Contractors in the Canberra/Queanbeyan area formed CROIERG to cater for such contingencies.
The members of CROIERG have formed a voluntary co-operative arrangement which enables a large pool of spill control, containment and clean-up equipment to be drawn on than would otherwise be possible if individual companies had only their own equipment.
CROIERG has a well maintained store of equipment that includes a large number of trailers. Spill Response Trailers are based in Canberra ACT, New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland
