Our Approach
The Canberra & Regions Oil Industry Emergency Response Group, Incorporated
Being prepared is part of Emergency Planning!
Incidents involving road or rail tankers may involve spillage, fire, actual or potential harm to people, property or the environment; product recovery; vehicle salvage; and site restoration. There could also be incidents at static oil storages. (Depots or Terminals)
Training sessions include simulated emergencies, involving the various emergency services, government agencies & industry personnel.
CROIERG has run successful RollOver Tanker Training Sessions in Canberra and these sessions have had attendances of hundreds of people and been acknowledged by our peers as being an outstanding success.
CROIERG has conducted extensive research into industry emergency responder training for road tanker incidents that may occur. This has resulted in two specialised training courses being developed in association with the Transport Industries Skills Centre (TISC) in Canberra ACT.
Two training courses have been developed: -
- Course in Fuel Transportation Emergency Planning and Response
- Course in Dangerous Goods Road Transport Emergency Recovery Operations (Petroleum Fuel Products)
Both of these training courses are Nationally Accredited and courses are conducted at the TISC Sutton Road Training Complex in Canberra
CROIERG Group Training Bulletins have received Australia wide recognition and are up-dated monthly to raise awareness of oil industry safety by reporting incidents from around the world as they occur. And also to cater for industry, and legislative, changes. They are available to Members in the Member’s Area of the website
The group has two specialised Training Trailers and a static display semi-trailer tanker unit
CROIERG has 26 specialised spill response trailers containing a large amount of the equipment needed to cater for petroleum products spillage incidents. These units include a special oil skimmer unit and also a special product transfer pumping unit. Other spill response units are being placed in strategic locations on the main transport routes on a regular basis depending on funds availability.
There is also a large supply of back-up equipment, together with six (6) trailers stored in Canberra with 24-hour access availability.
- This supply of spill response equipment would be the certainly the most comprehensive in inland Australia.
- CROIERG is recognised as a leader in inland oil industry emergency response (Mutual-Aid) groups.
- CROIERG assists in promoting the principles of Mutual-Aid Groups as an industry initiative for providing effective emergency response.
- The design of the CROIERG web site has received many compliments and the contents are comprehensive and constantly updated. The site contains a public section and a closed member’s only section, containing the Member’s Manual and Training Bulletins. These sections require an individual Member's User Code and Passwords for access.
The group has two specialised Training Trailers

A specially constructed RollOver Tanker Training Unit, which is trailer mounted and easily transported from location to location as and when required
